Judith A. Ritchie, RN PhD

A few of her notable accomplishments include:

  • Putting into place guidelines for maintaining skin integrity, preventing falls, and managing pain on 18 nursing units
  • Establishing a collaborative university/hospital partnership for developing academic nursing practice
  • Working with CNS at MUHC to develop their research supervision skills
  • Mentoring of numerous graduate students
  • As a Member at Large for CNA , set the guidelines for the ethical conduct of nursing research before other guidelines were widely available
  • As President of CNA , represented nursing at the National Forum on Health and brought national attention to the working environment of nurses
  • Numerous publications and presentations
  • Has received several millions in dollars in research funding

Jeanne Scotland, RN BN NNP

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Calgary Health Region, Calgary AB

A few of her accomplishments include:

  • Development and implementation of an evidence-based infant feeding in neonatal and infant units across four city hospitals
  • Obtained funding for implementation of the program
  • Publishing of a manuscript on the protocol
  • Prepared DVDs for the protocol that are being sold across North America
  • Received funding for a study examining sound levels in NICU
  • Actively involved in research integration into practice.

Outstanding New Investigator Award

Pammla Petrucka, RN PhD

Associate Professor, School of Nursing
University of Saskatchewan

She graduated from the University of Alberta in 2005 and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in 2006. A few of her accomplishments include:

  • National and international funding; has received over $1 million in funding over the past 3 years as the primary investigator
  • Has a community development focus with vulnerable population; has been awarded over $440,000 from IDRC for research work in the Caribbean
  • Working with the Standing Buffalo First Nation
  • Mentor and very well respected by students
  • Has an "openness to community-based research approaches that is complemented by her rigor in ensuring that methodologies are congruent and sound".
  • has a strong publication record at this time.

Nurse Researcher Award

Kathryn King, RN PhD

Professor, Faculty of Nursing
University of Calgary

A few of her accomplishments include:

  • has been considered a pioneer in cardiovascular nursing research in Canada
  • a national leader and mentor to cardiovascular nurse scientists and graduate students through the Facilitating Unique Training Using Research and Education ( FUTURE ).
  • Has a career span of 16 years with numerous publications, particularly as first author
  • Has been instrumental in conceptualizing and implementing a national strategy to increase capacity in cardiovascular nursing research
  • Holds a number of adjunct and joint appointments with other faculties and other universities.

Roberta Woodgate, RN PhD

Associate Professor, Faculty of Nursing
University of Manitoba

A few of her accomplishments include:

  • Completed her PhD in 2001 and has proven to be a prolific scholar already
  • Considered to be one of the leading international researchers in the field of nursing of children with cancer
  • Her dissertation study resulted in new discoveries about childhood cancer and cancer symptoms, and gave a 'voice' to children with cancer and their families
  • Appointed to the National Advisory Board for the Development of Best Practices for Research involving Children and Adolescents: Filling the Knowledge Gaps by the National Council on Ethics in Human Research
  • Recently received the CNA "Nurse to Know" Centennial Achievement Award
  • Has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications and over 100 conference and scholarly presentations.
  • Has supervised and mentored over 30 graduate students
  • Has obtained over $1 million in research funding.
